Oro Valley E-Flyers is a group of friends, ok...electric airplane junkies, who get together to fly radio control aircraft ...strictly
electric powered. We are a non-club and we fly at the Casas Baptist Church in Oro Valley, Arizona (northwest of Tucson-- see map).
We used to fly at the Copper Creek Elementary School yard in Oro Valley, but we were chased out by the local soccer zombies. Our new
field at the Church sits up higher than the surrounding terrain; this seems to smooth the wind flow creating a laminar effect
which is very nice for flying, even in a breeze. Now if we can just remove that 20 foot Saguaro that lives on the west side of the
field. An airplane magnet for sure.
The Price to Play. The performance of eflight has risen dramatically over the last
few years. And so has the cost. We are now to the point where we are stuffing $500 worth of electronics into a $50 hunk of foam. And
for that we are getting 100 to 200 watts per pound, and more, power figure. You don't need to be rich to enjoy this sport, but...
If
you are interested in joining us for a day of flying we welcome you. The field is gated and we have permission to fly on
Saturday mornings only. People arrive at various times of course but the crew is usually there between 9 a.m. and noon.
If it's too windy, nobody will show up.
